Big Win for Bunnies: Canada Bans Cosmetic Animal Testing

by Jessica Stevenson 05 Jul 2023 0 Comments

If you're a lover of both makeup and meeples, we've got some exciting news that's a win for both beauty buffs and our furry friends. Canada just made a significant move to ban cosmetic animal testing. It's a major step forward in animal welfare, reducing reliance on animal testing while ensuring our health and safety. As a proudly Canadian company, we at Fantasy Soapworks are thrilled with this development.

The Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Health, announced the ban under Bill C-47, Budget Implementation Act, 2023, No. 1. With this change, the Food and Drugs Act (FDA) has been amended to prohibit cosmetic animal testing. In plain English? Companies in Canada can no longer test cosmetic products on animals or sell products that rely on animal testing data to establish safety.

Now, if you're a die-hard Fantasy Soapworks fan, you're probably wondering, "What does this mean for us?" Short answer? Not a whole lot. Long answer? Let's dive in.

From the very first pour of Unicorn Soap to the latest batch of our Thunderbolt Bath Bomb, we've always been committed to crafting our potions and concoctions in a way that respects all creatures, great and small. We use magical ingredients that are good for you and kind to animals. While our soaps do contain lard, a byproduct of the meat industry, we ensure none of our ingredients or products are tested on animals.

It's worth noting that while the practice of cosmetic testing on animals has decreased significantly worldwide and was rarely conducted in Canada, this ban aligns Canada with other countries such as all European Union countries, Australia, the United Kingdom, and South Korea, that have already implemented similar prohibitions.

Health Canada isn't stopping at cosmetics, either. They're working with the international scientific and regulatory community to develop, validate, and implement effective alternatives to animal testing.

So, what does this mean for our magical wares? Well, it means our practice of crafting cruelty-free products continues as strong as ever! We're committed to creating enchanting bath and beauty products that respect animals as much as we respect the magic of RPGs and the fun of bath bombs. Celebrate this win for animal welfare, and rest easy knowing that no mythical creatures or adorable critters were involved in any testing for your epic bath time adventure!
