From 3D printing molds to hand-painting details, it’s a process filled with creativity, precision, and a dash of geeky flair!

From Concept to Creation: The Journey of a Geeky Bath Bomb

1. The Inspiration

Every great bath bomb starts with a spark of inspiration. Whether it's a beloved video game, a classic fantasy world, or a quirky anime, our goal is to capture the essence of these fandoms in a bath-time treat. We brainstorm ideas and sketch out designs, drawing from our favorite geeky universes.

2. Mold Magic: 3D Printing & Design

The next step is creating the perfect mold. Some molds are purchased from talented mold designers who specialize in intricate, fandom-themed designs. Others, we create ourselves using our trusty 3D printer. It’s a fun process that lets us bring unique, custom designs to life—like dice bombs for D&D lovers.

3. Mixing the Magic

Once the mold is ready, it’s time to mix the ingredients. We use a large stand mixer to ensure everything is perfectly blended. This is especially helpful for me, as I’ve been diagnosed with arthritis, and the mixer helps minimize the physical strain on my hands. It lets me focus on the creative aspects without worrying about flare-ups.

4. The Pressing Process

For some of our bath bombs, we use a pneumatic bath bomb press. This nifty machine presses the mixture into the mold with consistent pressure, creating perfectly formed bath bombs every time. Not all styles require the press, but it’s a lifesaver for those that do, again helping to reduce strain on my joints.

5. Adding the Finishing Touches: Painting & Detailing

This is where the magic really happens. We hand-paint each bath bomb with a mixture of dyes, micas, and 99% alcohol. The alcohol evaporates completely, leaving vibrant colours without activating the bath bomb prematurely. Some designs are airbrushed for a smooth, even finish, while others are hand-painted with intricate details. It’s a labour of love that turns each bath bomb into a tiny piece of art.

6. Packaging & Labeling: Keeping It Eco-Friendly

Once the bath bombs are painted and dried, we package them in Biolefin shrink film. This compostable material is eco-friendly and helps protect the bath bombs until they’re ready to be used. We finish with recycled paper labels, ensuring our packaging aligns with our commitment to sustainability.
